Enjoyed a wonderful day at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books at USC (it was my first time visiting the bookfest since it left UCLA). Even with these huge maps all over the place, still managed to get a bit turned around. One highlight was the free copy of Naguib Mahfouz’s book “The Thief and the Dogs” passed out by the Los Angeles Public Library as part of its Big Read project.
Clouds with a burst of Dodger blue seem an appropriate way to remember April 15, 2013 — excited for Jackie Robinson Day yet weighed down by the tragedy in Boston.
Celebrated Pi Day among my actuarial coworkers with 3.14 pies (three regular-sized pies, with a tiny pumpkin pie (for me :). Since pi is equal to 3.14159, I served the pies on 3/14 at 1:59pm (…though was told, at Caltech, the pies are served at 1:59am, a truer reflection of the number). Have to admit, I love these nerdy non-holiday holidays (Grammar Day was just last week) because they inspire so many organizations and individuals to get creative with the mechanics of language and math. May you all enjoy an irrational amount of pie this Pi Day. :)
Being reminded about the important things while at the ACE Hotel in Palm Springs.
Just a light-hearted sentiment (as seen in Silver Lake in 2011) in preparation for tomorrow’s Administrative Professionals Day! :)
Refilling Echo Park Lake: Was listening to this faucet-fountain babble all day. Was a nice change from the sounds of the construction truck (though, there’s still some of that too.)
Just remembering the anniversary of the Girl Scouts with this page from the Girl Scout Calendar of 1964. My grandma saved everything.
